GM Lev O. Alburt was not merely one of the strongest U.S. players of the 80's and 90's, with has three U.S. Chess Championships to his credit (1984, 1985, 1990), as well as being a very popular author and renowned chess teacher. Alburt, born August 21, 1946), was a theoretical physicist by training. He won the Ukrainian championship three times before coming came to the United States from the Soviet Union in 1979. He has won many strong tournaments, including the1982 Reykjavik International. In recognition of his significant contributions to American chess, Lev Alburt was inducted into the Chess Hall of Fame in 2003.
